Saying Yes to Adventure: Sex, Daisies and Sweet Liberation
Yesterday morning I had sex in a field of yellow daisies. Underneath the burning sun, exposed to the elements (like, you know, bees), naked, vulnerable and free, I said yes to a nature infused, love filled adventure.
Mic drop, right? Making love in a bed of wildflowers is, well, one of those experiences one only dreams of crossing off their bucket list. And I checked the hell out of it.
In a world of “should do this” and “must not do thats,” I’ve grown tired of following the invisible rulebook. I found a field of daisies, I frolicked, I giggled my heart out, I let my wild out. I did what any life loving human would do and soaked in the experience to the max.
Ahhh, sweet liberation.
Now, I have been known to get naked in out of box places, such as my roof during a rainstorm, a nude yoga class or a hike through the woods. But I haven’t always been the say yes type of person. In fact, over the past few years specifically, I’ve been doing a lot more no saying than anything.
In some ways, I guess, saying no is the prerequisite to saying yes.
I’ve spent some valuable time weeding out the things I want no part of, shedding and purging in order to dig up the most authentic version of myself. This method seems a little backwards, but no one said process was linear.
The danger comes, when we get so programmed to saying no that we forget to flip the switch when the time is right. Job that you hate: dump it. Partner that makes you miserable: bye. Social obligations that make you cringe: nope. Wild adventure: nah, wait…yes!
Beware. Hesitation is a conditioned safety mechanism and dangerously loyal companion. It can save you from destructive impulse decisions, but it can also prevent you from taking healthy risks and following your gut. If there’s one thing I know about living fully, it’s that joy often lives beyond your comfort zone.
Say yes to life!
I challenge you to find your yesses. Get on a plane, write your book, launch your blog, go on a date with a stranger, adopt a dog, spend a sunrise on the beach, learn a new language, skinny dip in the ocean. Playing it safe will regurgitate familiar results. Taking risks will propel you into the exhilarating unknown.
Bask in the unknown. Your life is calling.
